{"id":850,"date":"2012-09-27T22:52:46","date_gmt":"2012-09-27T22:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsoftgeek.com\/?p=850"},"modified":"2012-09-27T22:52:46","modified_gmt":"2012-09-27T22:52:46","slug":"exchange-recipients-limit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsoftgeek.com\/?p=850","title":{"rendered":"Exchange recipients limit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In fact, this information is easily available on technet, but sometimes it is useful to organize and put them in one place.<\/p>\n<h2>Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007 \u00a0recipients limit<\/h2>\n<p>There is an important change compared to Exchange 2003 \u2013 Distribution group are treated as one recipient.<\/p>\n<p>We can restrict recipients limit at the following levels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Organization<\/li>\n<li>Transport server<\/li>\n<li>Receive Connector<\/li>\n<li>Mailbox<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Recipient limit\u00a0\u00a0at the organization level, we can check this PowerShell command:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get-TransportConfig | fl MaxRecipientEnvelopeLimit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>or in EMC<\/p>\n<p>Organization Configuration | Hub Transport | Global Settings | Transport Settings tab | Transport Settings Properties<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/exchangeblog.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/TSS.jpg\" alt=\"Transport Settings\" width=\"350\" height=\"392\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And we can set this limit:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Set-TransportConfig-MaxRecipientEnvelopeLimit 4000<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Transport Servers level \u00a0we can check limit by the following command:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get-TransportServer | fl Name, PickupDirectoryMaxRecipientsPerMessage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>This limit applies only to messages thrown into the Pickup  Directory on transport servers. So this setting are not applied to  regular mail<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We can set this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Set-TransportServer-identity \u2018Server_Name\u2019-PickupDirectoryMaxRecipientsPerMessage 100<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At <strong>Receive Connector<\/strong> level we can check limit with following command<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get-ReceiveConnector | fl Name, MaxRecipientsPerMessage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This limit applies to messages accepted by a specific Receive Connector<\/p>\n<p>We can set this limit:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Set-ReceiveConnector-Identity \u2018ConnectorName\u2019-MaxRecpientsPerMessage 200<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And at the end \u00a0settings for a specific <strong>mailbox<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Get-Mailbox \u2018Mailbox_Name\u2019 | fl recipientLimits<\/p>\n<p><em>Unlimited means that the global settings are used.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Or in the EMC \u00a0in the mailbox properties | \u00a0Mail Flow Settings tab\u00a0| \u00a0Delivery Options\u00a0properties<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/exchangeblog.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/TSS2.jpg\" alt=\"Delivery Options\" width=\"350\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We can set this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Set-Mailbox-identity \u2018Mailbox_Name\u2019-RecipientLimits 50<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And what about mailboxes \u00a0limits and the global limits ?<\/p>\n<p>Mailboxes limits always take priority over the global. And not just  in the case of restrictions, but also bigger recipient numbers than the  global limit.<\/p>\n<p>There is one other place where you should look \u00a0when determining  limits. Especially in environments migrated or coexisting with Exchange  2003.<\/p>\n<p>These are the \u00a0Global Settings<\/p>\n<p>Run ADSIEdit connect to Configuration<\/p>\n<p>Expand CN = Configuration \u2026 | CN = Services | CN = Microsoft Exchange  | CN = NazwaOrganizacjEX | CN = Global Settings | choose\u00a0Message  Delivery properties \u00a0and find the value of msExchRecipLimit<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/exchangeblog.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/tss3.jpg\" alt=\"ADSIedit\" width=\"350\" height=\"385\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This limit can be changed by using the ESM \u00a0for Exchange 2003 or  Exchange 2007 (SP1) and Exchange 2010 tools. But after changing in the  ESM EX 2003 \u00a0the new value is not visible in the console 2007\/2010.
