DFS allows you to setup shared folders hosted on different servers into one or more logically structured namespaces. Each namespace appears to users as a single shared folder with a series of subfolders. This setup increases availability and automatically connects users to shared folders in the same\u00a0Active DirectoryDomain Services site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ipt_kb_toc_5610_1\">Installing the DFS Role<\/h3>\n<p>login to your Windows 2016 Server, and open the Server Manager console. click on\u00a0<strong>Add roles and features:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img the\u00a0<strong>File and Storage services\u00a0<\/strong>and select\u00a0<strong>DFS Namespaces\u00a0<\/strong>from the list:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"File and \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ipt_kb_toc_5610_2\">Configuring DFS<\/h3>\n<p>After the DFS role has been installed, open the the\u00a0<strong>DFS Management\u00a0<\/strong>console, and right-click\u00a0<strong>Namespaces\u00a0<\/strong>and choose\u00a0<strong>New Namespace..<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Configure DFS \" on\u00a0<strong>Next.\u00a0<\/strong>Choose a name for your namespace in the following screen. this will be the name of your domain sharing path. for example forevergeeks.com\/files<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"choose the DFS file name \" src=\"https:\/\/ittutorials.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/image_thumb-269.png\" alt=\"choose the DFS file name \" width=\"600\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click on\u00a0<strong>Edit Settings..\u00a0<\/strong>to edit permissions on the share. by default everyone only has \u201cread\u201d permissions. click on\u00a0<strong>Next.\u00a0<\/strong>on the following screen choose the\u00a0<strong>Namespace Type<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"domain-based namespace\" the\u00a0<strong>Domain-based namespace\u00a0<\/strong>and click on\u00a0<strong>Next.\u00a0<\/strong>Review the settings and then click on\u00a0<strong>Create:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img width=\"597\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Test your DFS Namespace is working by typing the network path in Explorer ( e.g forevergeeks.comfiles )<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p>it works!\u00a0 but nothing there yet though.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"ipt_kb_toc_5610_3\">Create DFS folders<\/h3>\n<p>We will add folders to the DFS namespace now. from your DFS Management console, right-click the namespace we just created, and choose\u00a0<strong>New Folder<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Create DFS folder\"
