2.<\/td>\nStart the New Connection Wizard<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3.<\/td>\nSelect Connect to the network at my workplace<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

5.<\/td>\nClick on Virtual Private Network connection<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

7.<\/td>\nGive the Connection a Name<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

9.<\/td>\nIf prompted, select whether or not you need to dial to the Internet before establishing a VPN connection<\/span><\/a>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

10.<\/td>\nEnter in the IP address of the server<\/span><\/a> you want to connect to. This needs to be the external WAN IP<\/span><\/a> address that is being used \tby the VPN Server<\/span><\/a>. Not the LAN IP address of the VPN<\/span><\/a> server.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

VPN and Browsing<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

1.<\/td>\nBrowsing the remote network can be difficult if not \t\timpossible over a VPN connection. There are too many variables that can \t\thinder this.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2.<\/td>\nTo make browsing work a little easier, you might want to edit the HOSTS and LMHOSTS files on the VPN Client<\/span><\/a>.These are in the C:\\Windows\\System32\\drivers\\etc directory for XP.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3.<\/td>\nJust add a line with the LAN IP address of the VPN \t\tserver followed by it’s name.e.g
\n192.168.1.10\u00a0 SERVER<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
4.<\/td>\nYou can also add in the LAN IP address and Name of \t\tany other computers on the remote network that you may want to connect \t\tto<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
5.<\/td>\nAlso, make sure the workgroup name is the same on all computers.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

The default Client TCP\/IP setting might interfere with your ability to access the Internet while having a VPN connection. To correct this:<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

1.<\/td>\nGo to the properties for your VPN connection<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2.<\/td>\nClick on the Networking tab<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3.<\/td>\nDouble click on TCP\/IP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
4.<\/td>\nClick on the Advanced button<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
