The Active Directory Domain Services is the feature of creating domain and managing\u00a0it, but it\u2019s never had been easy to do in a new platform due to many changes or having no experience of it. Surely you need some steps to follow to install and configure Active Directory Domain Services(ADDS) fully by following up the steps here. No matter if you have installed your server now or if you are doing it on a VM machine you can do it now, so let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n

Install Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)<\/h2>\n

To get started, first you have to install it then setup a domain controller.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before starting, make sure that you have renamed the server properly and have given static IP address to it. If you don\u2019t know how to do it then see the instructions below.<\/p>\n

To setup static IP address open Run<\/strong> (Windows + r) type Ncpa.cpl\u00a0<\/strong>and hit enter, when the Network Connections<\/strong>opened\u00a0select the network and right click on it choose Properties<\/strong>. Now select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP\/IPV4)<\/strong>\u00a0and click on Properties<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

When the window appears, select Use the following IP<\/strong> address<\/strong> then enter an IP address<\/strong>, Subnet mask<\/strong>,\u00a0Preferred DNS server addresses\u00a0<\/strong>and click ok<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

1. <\/strong>Now to install AD DS\u00a0<\/strong>open Server Manager<\/strong> and click on Add Roles and features.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. <\/strong>Read the important notes and click Next<\/strong> to verify and continue the installation.<\/p>\n

3. <\/strong>Here\u00a0<\/strong>let the Role-based<\/strong>\u00a0be selected, just click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0<\/strong>Now select Active Directory Domain Services<\/strong> then click Add Features<\/strong> to include the required features within AD and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

While installing AD it will install some other features with it such as:<\/p>\n

  • DFS Replication<\/li>\n
  • File Replication Services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    6.\u00a0<\/strong>Leave the features window by default and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    7.\u00a0<\/strong>Read all the info about the AD and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    8.\u00a0<\/strong>Now the ADDS is ready to install, click Install<\/strong> to begin the installation.<\/p>\n

    9.\u00a0<\/strong>Wait for the installation to complete, then click on Promote this server to a domain controller.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Configure Server\u00a0to Domain Controller<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    1.\u00a0<\/strong>When the window opened click on\u00a0Promote this server to a domain controller, <\/strong>now\u00a0click on Add a new forest<\/strong> then type the domain name in the Root domain name<\/strong> blank and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    2.\u00a0<\/strong>Let the Domain Controller options be by default and type a password for DSRM<\/strong> then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Notice:\u00a0<\/strong>Set the Forest functional level<\/strong> the highest so your environment can support and make sure that all the domain controller are supported with that operating system.<\/p>\n

    3.\u00a0<\/strong>Ignore the DNS delegation<\/strong>\u00a0warning because its due to not installed DNS server on the server, and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    4.\u00a0<\/strong>Now verify the NetBIOS name and change it if necessary then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Note:<\/strong> NetBIOS name is a Network Basic Input\/output system that allow applications on separate computers to communicate over a local network and can be required by some applications and network devices.<\/p>\n

    5.\u00a0<\/strong>Specify the location of AD DS database, log files, SYSVOL and change it if necessary then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    6.\u00a0<\/strong>Now review all the configuration you\u2019ve done then click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    7.\u00a0<\/strong>The configuration is done now, click Install<\/strong> to begin the installation and ignore the warnings.<\/p>\n

    Note:\u00a0<\/strong>It will install DNS role too.<\/p>\n

    After installing the system will reboot automatically, when the system restarted the domain will work successfully\u00a0and you can log in and see the domain features.<\/p>\n
