{"id":1861,"date":"2016-03-30T20:02:02","date_gmt":"2016-03-30T20:02:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsoftgeek.com\/?p=1861"},"modified":"2016-03-30T20:03:23","modified_gmt":"2016-03-30T20:03:23","slug":"cant-remove-additional-exchange-mailboxes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsoftgeek.com\/?p=1861","title":{"rendered":"Can\u2019t remove additional Exchange mailboxes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"single-excerpt\">\n<p>I\u2019ve added some additional Exchange mailboxes to my account but now I can\u2019t seem to remove them anymore in Outlook as they don\u2019t show up in my account settings or the additional mailboxes list.<\/p>\n<p>Right clicking on a mailbox and choosing \u201cClose &lt;mailbox&gt;\u201d produces the error:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffff00;\"><em>&#8220;This group of folders is associated with an e-mail account. To remove the account, click the File Tab, and on the Info tab, click Account Settings. Select the e-mail account, and then click Remove.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As they are not listed there, how can I still close these mailboxes?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Restarting Outlook is a first quick check to see if there are any pending account changes which can only be processed via a restart. Most likely, this isn\u2019t going to bring you anything though.<\/p>\n<p>More likely is that you are using Outlook 2007 with SP3, Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013 and the mailbox is being hosted on Exchange 2010 server with Service Pack 1 or later. In addition, you have been granted \u201cFull Access\u201d permissions on the mailbox by your Exchange administrator.<\/p>\n<p>In that case, the additional mailbox is being added automatically via the \u201cAuto-Mapping\u201d feature of Exchange.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Folder list with an auto-mapped mailbox.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.msoutlook.info\/pictures\/exchange-automap-mailbox-folder-list.png\" alt=\"Folder list with an auto-mapped mailbox.\" \/><\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Account Settings - Configured Exchange account\" src=\"http:\/\/www.msoutlook.info\/pictures\/exchange-account-list.png\" alt=\"Account Settings - Configured Exchange account\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Exchange - Additional mailbox list\" src=\"http:\/\/www.msoutlook.info\/pictures\/exchange-additional-mailboxes.png\" alt=\"Exchange - Additional mailbox list\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><em>Auto-mapped mailboxes are not exposed in your account or additional mailbox list.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Removing an auto-mapped mailbox<\/h2>\n<p>As you\u2019ve noticed, removing a mailbox that has been added via the auto-mapping feature is not possible via the traditional way. In fact, as an end-user, there is nothing you can do to remove it in Outlook.<\/p>\n<p>However, you can ask your Exchange administrator to remove the auto-mapping attribute for your account from the additional mailbox you\u2019ve been granted \u201cFull Access\u201d to.<\/p>\n<p>Your administrator can then run the following PowerShell command in the Exchange Management Shell:<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><code>Add-MailboxPermission -Identity <em>&lt;shared mailbox alias&gt;<\/em> -User <em>&lt;your mailbox alias&gt;<\/em> -AccessRights FullAccess -InheritanceType All -Automapping $false<\/code><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Once this property has been removed, the additional mailbox will automatically remove itself within some minutes after you restart Outlook.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Notes for your Exchange administrator<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>This command requires Exchange 2010 SP2 or later.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>This command removes the reference to the user with the Full Access permissions from the msExchDelegateListLink property of the additional mailbox.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The additional mailboxes for a user are propagated via the <code>AlternateMailbox<\/code> attribute with AutoDiscover.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve added some additional Exchange mailboxes to my account but now I can\u2019t seem to remove them anymore in Outlook as they don\u2019t show up in my account settings or the additional mailboxes list.
