By default when you create a distribution group (also known as a distribution list) external email addresses are unable to send emails to the group.<\/p>\n

To allow external email addresses to use the group you will need to disable the \u2018Require that all senders are authenticated\u2019 option.<\/p>\n

Please note, this may open your server and users to unwanted spam. You may want to do this in conjugation with message restrictions to minimise unwanted emails from external email addresses.<\/em><\/p>\n

How to allow external senders to use a distribution list<\/h2>\n

  1. In the Exchange Management Console<\/strong>, expand the \u2018Organization Configuration\u2019<\/strong> node, and then select the \u2018Distribution List\u2019<\/strong> node<\/li>\n

  3. Once you have located the desired Distribution Group, double-click<\/strong> on the object<\/li>\n
  4. Select the \u2018Mail Flow Settings\u2019<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n
  5. Select \u2018Message Delivery Restrictions\u2019<\/strong> then click on the \u2018Properties\u2019<\/strong>button<\/li>\n

  7. un-tick<\/strong> the \u2018Require that all senders are authenticated\u2019<\/strong> option<\/li>\n

  9. Click \u2018OK\u2019 <\/strong>then \u2018OK\u2019<\/strong> again to save the changes.<\/li>\n
