{"id":1250,"date":"2013-05-07T23:06:47","date_gmt":"2013-05-07T23:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsoftgeek.com\/?p=1250"},"modified":"2013-05-07T23:07:16","modified_gmt":"2013-05-07T23:07:16","slug":"shutdown-windows-faster-on-your-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsoftgeek.com\/?p=1250","title":{"rendered":"Shutdown Windows PC faster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Does your Windows computer take way to long to shutdown?\u00a0 If so, I have a simple fix that will allow you to shutdown your Windows OS computer in a matter of seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Click the Start button and then click \u201cRun\u201d, type \u201cregedit\u201d to open the registry editor and click the \u201cOK\u201d button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/onlineitpro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/run5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"run5\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/onlineitpro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/run5.png\" width=\"427\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Navigate to: <strong>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control<\/strong>. In the left pane, make sure you left click on the \u201cControl\u201d key.\u00a0 In the right pane, you will see the \u201cWaitToKillServiceTimeout\u201d key.\u00a0 This key tells Vista how long to wait after telling all services to end.\u00a0 The default value that you will see for the key is 20000 (20 seconds).\u00a0 Double click on the \u201cWaitToKillServiceTimeout\u201d key.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/onlineitpro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/registry4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"registry4\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/onlineitpro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/registry4.png\" width=\"498\" height=\"258\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can now edit the value of the key.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/onlineitpro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/tip1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"tip1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/onlineitpro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/tip1.png\" width=\"14\" height=\"20\" \/><\/a> <strong>PRO TIP:<\/strong> From all of the information I have read and researched, the lowest that you can set this key is between\u00a0 3000 (3 seconds) to 5000 (5 seconds).\u00a0 <strong>DO NOT ENTER ANYTHING LOWER THAN 3000!!! <\/strong>If you set a value lower than 3000, you run the risk of your services not shutting down correctly and (worst case scenario) you could damage your operating system and loose your data.<\/p>\n<p>When you have set the value to your liking, click the \u201cOK\u201d button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/onlineitpro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/editregistry.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"editregistry\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/onlineitpro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/editregistry.png\" width=\"394\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You must restart your computer in order for the changes to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for reading!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>-Microsoft Geek<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Does your Windows computer take way to long to shutdown?\u00a0 If so, I have a simple fix that will allow you to shutdown your Windows OS computer in a matter of seconds.
